WAUPACA COUNTY NEWS April 13, 1922 NAME STEVENS POINT HOTEL After
George A. Whiting, Neenah, paper mill owner at Stevens Point, had wired a
$25,000 stock subscription for the new local hotel now being constructed there,
directors of the hotel company met and decided to name the building after him. It is to be called “Hotel Whiting.” Mr.
Whiting was solicited at Hot Springs, Ark., by E.A. Oberweiser, of the Point,
his business associate and president of the hotel company. Mr. Whiting is president and principal owner
of the Whiting-Plover Paper Co. at the Point and the George A. Whiting Paper
Co., Menasha. He founded the paper mill
industry in this vicinity. The
$25,000 subscription makes Mr. Whiting the heaviest subscriber in the hotel
company, which is being financed largely with money raised among local
citizens. The hotel, five stores in
height with 125 rooms, will be completed sometime during the summer. It has been leased to John M. Teeling,
Milwaukee. |
