Wagner Brothers Buy Stewart Four Wheel Drive Tractor

THE FIRST STEWART FOUR WHEEL DRIVE TRACTOR

Completed on March 3, 1919

The tractor pictured above which was the first Stewart Four Wheel Drive tractor made, was sold on Tuesday of this week to Wagner Bros. of Waupaca, who will take it to Oneida County, Wisconsin, where it will be used in stumping and plowing a large tract of cut over farm land, which the Wagner’s own in that county.

The plow that will be used with the tractor has a 22 inch bottom, and weighs approximately 1500 lbs.

This tractor, while it is over three years old, is considered by Alex Stewart, head of the Stewart Tractor Company of Waupaca, the manufacturers of the machine, to be in splendid condition and he says that with proper care it will last for a long time yet and give the best of service.

This is one of the tracors that was used by Mr. Stewart during the ast summer, at the time he had the contract for the graveling of Mill Street from the Soo depot, to the bridge near the Nelson Lumber Company, and for the work that was done one East Fulton and Granite streets.  In this work it was proven beyond a doubt that the Stewart tractor is the most economical power machine made for this class of work.  The city of Waupaca was saved a considerable sum of money, and at the same time the local tractor company made a nice profit.

During the graveling of Mill street the tractor used approximately 15 gallons of gas per day, while it hauled in trailers daily 24 yards of gravel a distance of six miels.  This hauling was done over a dirt road that was not in the best condition.
