RESOLUTION

 

            Whereas, at the services conducted over the remains of Conrad Jay Whitney by the Orville Ballard Post No. 92 on Thursday, July 22, 1920, the Reverend Anthony Jacobs, who delivered the sermon at the obsequies, made remarks which were entirely inappropriate for such an occasion; were in no way germane to the spirit of the rites and could not but tend to offend the sense of decency and propriety of the relatives and friends who had gathered to pay respect to the departed Comrade and who, in place of hearing words of condolence and sentiments of inspiration, were greatly grieved and shocked to hear thoughts expressed totally out of keeping with the conduct of burial services and quite uncalled for and incongruous; and

            Whereas, it is the sense of this Post that services and exercises under the auspices of the Post must be fitting and appropriate and that the speakers at such services must not stoop to language and thoughts which can find approval only in the minds of a very few morbid and salacious persons for whom this Post has no admiration nor approval, nor must the speaker depart from the purpose of the occasion and give vent to thoughts for which he entertains an obsession, when such thoughts are foreign to the object of the exercises being held,

            Now, Therefore, It Is Hereby Resolved by the members of the Orville Ballard Post No. 92, in special meeting assembled, that hereafter this Post will take no part in any proceedings or ceremonies at which the Reverend Anthony Jacobs officiates, speaks, or assists in officiating or speaking, and
