WAUPACA COUNTY NEWS November 9, 1922 WILL BUILD NEW CHURCH WORK IS ALREADY STARTED BY SALEM LUTHERAN BODY The Salem Lutheran church, one of the oldest church organizations in the county, is going to have a new church home. The work of excavating for the chapel, which will be built first, was begun on Tuesday morning. The new church edifice will be located on the corner of W. Badger and Franklyn streets. Theodore Anderson has the contract and will start work on the foundation walls as soon as the excavating is completed. The church was organized in 1864, and was first located on the old Sheridan road, about four miles north and west of Waupaca. During all these years services have been held and a quite, though blessed work, performed. Many members, instructed and confined there, have moved away, while others have settled in the city of Waupaca. About a year ago steps were taken to move the organization into the city of Waupaca, that it might more effectively minister to all its members and exert a greater influence in the community. It is worshiping for the present in the auditorium of the Dane’s Home, under the charge of the Rev. C.M. Oliver, field secretary of the Augusting Synod of the Lutheran church. A regular pastor will be called in the near future. As services cannot be held every Sunday, while the field secretary has charge, announcement of services will be made through the columns of The Waupaca County News. |
