WAUPACA COUNTY CROPS

ALL INDICATIONS POINT TO THIS HARVEST BEING RECORD YIELD

The exceptional growing weather that has prevailed this season will result in record breaking bumper crops for Waupaca county farmers this fall, according to all present indications.

The hay crop has been cut and the farmers have their barns filled to the roofs.  Several farmers have stated to The News editor that the hay crop in this county is the heaviest that they have seen in twenty years.  Last year the crop was light and many farmers had to buy this needed feed before the winter was over.  This year the story is different, and in addition to having the barns filled to capacity, the surplus stocks are large.  In this connection it is interesting to note the progress made in the methods used on the farms these days, compared with those of a few years back, particularly in the use of the versatile tractor.

County Agent Dance tells me that the rye crop is exceptionally heavy this year, and that most of the farmers have completed the work of cutting this crop.  Oats are also heavy and the farmers have already started the work of cutting a bumper crop of this grain.  In fact all grain crops in Waupaca county could not present a better appearance. Second growth alfalfa and clover is already being cut.

The potato crop in Waupaca county has never looked so favorable in years, and if leafhoppers are controlled the crop will be a record breaker.  The digging of the potato crop usually starts about the first of October, but this year it is expected that the season will be some what advanced, owing to the present good condition of the crop.

The cool nights have not been of the greatest benefit to the corn crop but even this is in fine condition, in most places is showing a rapid growth, and gives indication of a good yield.
