POTATOES ARE OFF A BIT
An interview with one of the local buyers of potatoes reveals the fact that he price of potatoes is falling off a bit. Yesterday the price was 60 cents; today it has dropped down to 50 and 55 depending upon the quality of stock offered. About three carloads is the day’s acceptance. One of the reasons for the decline in price is the fact that some of the stock brought in is too green for shipment, particularly as the mildness of the weather brings a shipping condition which necessitates that the stock should be of the ripest. The survey of the production for the county indicates that if the country at large runs as well there will be an abundance of potatoes for the markets this year; one local farmer reports that his fields will produce at least 350 bushels per acre. Prices given above are per hundred weight. |
