MORE COMMENTS ON HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION IN WAUPACA COUNTY

George C. Murray of St. Lawrence temporarily living at Elderon, was in the city Monday and expressed his approval of the discussion appearing in Waupaca County newspapers on the relative values of materials for surfacing of the highways of Wisconsin.  Mr. Murray is strongly in favor of gravel for road construction as the laying of concrete is too expensive a process and will take too long to get any considerable portion of the country roads surfaced with that material.

Another complaint by people on highway No. 18 near Sheridan is that a concrete culvert under construction was changed by order of a state engineer from a ten foot draw to a six foot draw.  The narrowing of the draw resulted in a saving of two yards of concrete and caused considerable expense of plans with the result that some cellars may be flooded because of the autocratic action of one Mengel of Grand Rapids.  It is claimed that the culvert was built so high that the grading to correspond will also cause heavy expense and cause damage to owners of residences in the village.
