LONG DISTANCE PHONE

The Postal Telegraph Co. have installed in their office in the old National Bank Bldg., a long distance telephone service which connects with the larger offices on this company throughout the United States.  At present connections have been established with Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Louisville and points south.  This telephone service is not to take the place of the telegraph but is used in exclusive long distance telephone work.

This service is not intended to be a local service but is for the demand of the public for a prompt and reduced long distance service between the several cities and towns where the service has been installed.  The Postal connects in no way with the Bell lines and can only be used between parties both of whom have the “postal” telephone installed.  At present there have been installed in Chicago about three hundred telephones with all of which connections can be made through the local office.

At present only one telephone has been installed in this city, but it is expected in the near future to install this service with the principal users of the long distance in Waupaca.  The wires used for this service are the same as used for telegraph, neither interfering with the other.
