BOOSTS WAUPACA OCTOBER BELL TELEPHONE NEWS WRITES UP THIS COMMUNITY BEAUTY OF THE CHAIN O’ LAKES Front Cover Contains Lake View Manager McCormick Author of Article What It Says – Is of Real Value To City of Waupaca
The October issue of the Bell Telephone News is of much interest to the people of Waupaca, and those residing near the Chain o’ Lakes. The cover is a half tone plate, presenting to the readers of that house publication one of the most beautiful views of Rainbow lake and Crescent island. Pages seven and eight of the publication are taken up with a write-up of Waupaca. “Pearl of the Wisconsin Lakes,” and was written by Edward McCormick, manager of the Waupaca Telephone exchange. The center of the first page of the write-up is set off attractively for a double half tone, one a picture of Mr. McCormick, and the other a picture of Miss Nettie Johnson, chief operator of the Waupaca exchange, with the caption over the pictures, “They Manage Telephone Affairs in Waupaca.” In addition to telling about the city of Waupaca proper, the article describes the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home, the Chain o’ Lakes, and tells the thrills of a trip down the Crystal river. Neither does it miss giving a short history of the Wisconsin Telephone Company in Waupaca, and a description of its plant here. It shows that the company has spent a large sum of money on the Waupaca exchange, that it is the checking point for seventeen tributary offices. One of the points that are brought out, and which will be a surprise as well as of interest to the people of this city is the fact that the company has on its pay roll at Waupaca, twenty-two people, eighteen of whom are operators, and that it is one of the leading exchanges in the state, for the amount of toll business handled. This is one of the best boosts and pieces of advertising that Waupaca and the Chain o’ Lakes has ever received, and much credit is due Mr. McCormick, the local manager for his interest in preparing the article, which is well written and tells of the beauties of this “Garden of Eden” in Wisconsin, without leaving a feeling with the reader that the truth was overdrawn, a point or two. It is such publicity as this that makes the world acquainted with the beauties and tourists in ever-increasing numbers to this wonder spot in Wisconsin. |
