The Waupaca city council met in regular session on Tuesday evening of this week. Bills were allowed and routine business gone through with following which new business was taken up. A petition was presented asking that a street light be placed at the corner of Oak and Ware streets. This matter was referred to the light commission. Wm. Dressen of the Old National Bank appeared before the council, and spoke in regard to the canceling of taxes on bank stock. The matter was referred to the judiciary committee. At the present time a law suit on this matter is pending. A communication from Portage county was read, asking that the county of Waupaca give aid to Mrs. Robert Much, instead of Portage county, as her husband is an inmate of the Waupaca county jail. She is a resident of Lannark in Portage county. Nothing was done on the matter. It was decided that after December 31st, that motorcycle Officer Kurkowski be discharged, as the city has no need of a traffic officer during the winter months. The water and light commission reported favorably for a light on the corner of Washington and Granite streets. The council ordered the new street light. Permission was granted the state of Wisconsin to erect two broadcasting towers on Jefferson street, for the state wireless station in this city. A representative of the Stewart Tractor Company appeared before the council in regard to the sale of a tractor to the city. No action was taken on the matter. A new ordinance was passed by the council, creating the office of an electrical inspector, whose duty will be to see that all wiring and fixtures are properly installed in the city. |
