F. CHRISTENSON GROCERY FIRE SCENE FRIDAY

CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE IS CAUSED BY SMOLDERING FIRE

THAT BURNED THROUGH FLOOR

When Frank Christenson opened his store building Friday morning he was met by a cloud of smoke that drove him back.  An alarm brought out the fire company and an application of chemicals extinguished the fire that had caught from the stove and worked its way down through the double floor over a space of some five or six feet but had not been fanned into a blaze because of lack of draft.

The damage to the building was nominal and carpenters were able to repair the floor that day.  The odor of smoke was so strong that all cookies and candy in the cases were ruined entailing considerable loss and causing the annoyance of replacing the goods with fresh ones.  The actual loss was fully covered by insurance. The fire evidently was caused by a firebrand falling upon the floor in front of the stove as the stove door stood ajar when the owner found his way inside the building.
