COUNCIL MEETING

 

            At the regular meeting of the city council on Tuesday evening, the following business was transacted:

            A petition of residents in the Third Ward asking that the city take some steps to safeguard them from the stones which fly when the Wisconsin Granite Company is blasting, was referred to the board of public works.  

            A.A. Papineau was granted a saloon license, his saloon being located in the Hotel Delevan.  His bondsmen are A.R. Lea and D.W. Fitch.  This means twelve saloons in the city, more than ever before, each paying $500 a year license.

            The usual bills were ordered paid.

            An ordinance was passed fixing the width of the sidewalk on the south side of South Street at five feet.

            A like ordinance for the north side of Shearer Street was referred to the board of public works.

            City Treasurer Dutton reported a balance on hand of $8642.10.

            A. Harris, on the pauper list, was given an increase of fifty cents a week, making a total of $1.50.

            The board of public works was instructed to rebuild the retaining wall on Badger Street, near the A.M. Hansen new building, and $250 was appropriated to pay for it.

            A cement crosswalk was ordered built on Main Street, across Tiago, at an expense of $40.
