Fourth of July 25 Years Ago

(Photo not included)

A quarter century ago, Waupaca citizens drank to their country’s birthday with long cool steins of beer.  Today we boast legal independence of that same stein!

Anyway, here is how this town celebrated 25 years ago.  Frank Stout’s saloon (on East Fulton Street) has given way to a barbershop. The photograph gallery is still in the same building.

Those two youngsters on the sidewalk – do you know who they are?  One is a printer and member of the firm which publishes this paper.  The other, on the right, is a popular restaurantman here today.

Standing behind Mike and Guy is John Law.  You’ll recognize Alvin Cartwright by the star.  The boys on the beer wagon, with steins in their hands – oh, well, they’re all riding on the water wagon now, and we won’t give them away.
