Henry Haertel Service, Inc. Buys Memorial Works of A.W. Spindt of This City

Leases Building Erected by Dan Downey Forty-Five Years Ago and

Has Already Taken Possession.

J.H. Halverson, Iola, will Move To Waupaca and Act as Manager

A.W. Spindt, who has successfully conducted the monument business since April, 1917, which he purchased from Dan Downey, has this week sold the business to Henry Haertel of Stevens Point and expects soon to leave Waupaca for a winter sojourn at some point where the winters are not so rigorous as Wisconsin.

The business was conducted by Bailey and Downey more than a half century ago or in the early seventies.  In 1882 Mr. Downey erected the building on Main Street and during the past summer Mr. Spindt has added a commodious work room enclosed with brick at the rear of the office.

In the eleven seasons that Mr. Spint has been in the monument business his sales have increased in volume and the only reason for disposing of his business was because physicians have advised him to locate in a more congenial climate.

Mr. Spindt in all his business, official, and social relations during his residence since childhood, has a friendship as wide as his acquaintance; and his many friends regret that the family are compelled to leave Waupaca and it is hoped they may return when Mr. Spindt shall have regained his health.

                                                            Mr. Haertel’s Career

Regarding Mr. Haertel’s business career we are reproducing the following from Stevens Point Journal of Tuesday:

Henry Haertel, president of Henry Haertel Service, Inc., a business which he has developed in 26 years from an infant memorial crafts concern to a manufactory with headquarters here that supplies memorials to people of 25 counties in Wisconsin, announced today the purchase of the A.W. Spindt Memorial business at Waupaca.

The deal was concluded on Monday and Henry Haertel Service, Inc., has already taken possession.  The purchase included the manufacturing plant at Waupaca, salesroom and display space.  J.H. Halverson of Iola, for the past several years employed as a traveling salesman for Henry Haertel Service, will become manager of the Waupaca branch and make his home with his family, there.

                                                            Two Branch Offices

The addition of the Waupaca concern gives the Haertel company two branch offices in addition to the local headquarters office, as one of the best memorial display rooms in the state is located at Wisconsin Rapids as a branch of the local company.  Mr. Spindt, who sold at Waupaca, will retire from active work on account of ill health.

The growth of Henry Haertel Service, Inc., has been steady and sure since the company first began business in Stevens Point in 1901.  In 26 years, the business has annually increased, from the 42 orders received during the initial year, to more than 1,000 which will be taken care of in 1927.

                                                            National Officer

Mr. Haertel through all the 26 years has been directing head of his company.  He is now and for the past six years has been, treasurer of the Memorial Craftsmen of America, a national organization of the memorial craftsmen.

Henry Haertel Service, Inc., serves twenty-five Wisconsin counties in the territory extending north ot the Michigan boundary and west to the Minnesota line.
