Waupaca Chiropractic Opens New Clinic
By Robert Cloud, Post Editor
Waupaca Chiropractic has relocated its clinic to a new facility on Western Avenue in Waupaca.
Dr. Miriam Leean, who owns the practice, said the new facility is larger, more modern and more efficient.
The former clinic, located in a house on Hillcrest Drive, provided less than 1,600 square feet of space on two floors. The new facility has 2,700 square feet on a single floor. There are four adjusting rooms, a massage room, a therapy room and an X-ray room.
“We had traditional X-ray film at the old place. Now we have computerized, digital X-rays that are more efficient,” Leean said. “It allows us to enhance the image for a better interpretation. It’s easier for us to share X-rays with other health-care professionals. And we can burn a CD and send it to a hospital or to the patient.”
Leean explained that when the X-rays are burned onto a CD, the software needed to read the X-ray is automatically downloaded so it can be viewed on any computer.
The new equipment represented a major investment for the clinic.
“The digital equipment is more expensive, but it makes up for the cost with lower film and chemical expenses.”
Leean noted that the clinic also saved money by not having to build a darkroom for developing the X-rays.
Leean said it is easier for the doctors to work in the new clinic because all the adjusting rooms are closer together.
The clinic’s reception area is larger and adjacent to a room where patients may sit in massage chairs while waiting for their appointments or after an adjustment. A children’s play area is also located in the reception area.
“The business office is right behind the front desk now, so the patients have accessibility to the billing specialist, which they didn’t have in the other office because it was upstairs,” Leean said. “It gives the patients privacy when they need to discuss a bill or an insurance claim.”
Leean said the new facility is completely handicapped-accessible, with two van-sized parking stalls, a ramp to the front door and wider hallways.
“We tried very hard to make sure our facility is as conducive to as many people as possible from all walks of life,” Leean said. “A lot of our patients should enjoy not having to walk on an icy, hilly parking lot in the winter.”
With the new facility, Waupaca Chiropractic has expanded its staff. In June, the clinic hired a second doctor, Dr. Jean Rice, who is now working full time.
Waupaca Chiropractic has two doctors, two massage therapists and five support staff.
With business hours Monday through Friday, the clinic opens early at 7 a.m. on Wednesdays.
“We’re hoping that will be nice for business people or third-shift workers,” Leean said.
Waupaca Chiropractic will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 14-25. The grand opening will kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday. Visitors may tour the clinic during the open house and complimentary bone-density and osteoporosis screenings will be available to the public. No appointments are necessary for the screenings.
Dr. Douglas Howard and Dr. John Sorenson, who are visiting the clinic for the grand opening, are doing the bone-density scans. They plan to present nutritional lectures from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 14-15, at the Comfort Suites at Foxfire. They will also discuss the results of the screenings with individuals who had them during the day.
“It was a long time in coming,” said Leean, who moved to Waupaca in January 2002 and purchased the practice in April 2003. “I’m living my dream in my home town.”
