ONCE UPON A TIME

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

            C. Gmeiner, the contractor, is out about $3,000 as the result of an experiment which he has been making near Weyauwega.  When the asylum was located there he immediately made preparations to put in a brick making plant in the vicinity.  He took some of the clay and had it tested as to its quality for making bricks, and it was pronounced all right.  He therefore put in a brick yard, with the necessary machinery, but when he attempted to make the brick for the asylum it was found that the clay was not of the right quality; it could not be dried by the sun without cracking or bursting open.  He has made several experiments, all with the same result.
