THE  Y.M.C.A. RALLY

Magnificent Meetings Held on Saturday and Sunday in The New Building

The Young Men’s Christian Association movement in Waupaca received a great impetus on Saturday and Sunday last, when several meetings were held in the Association’s new quarters in the Pinkerton block on Jefferson street.  Large audiences were present at every meeting, and great interest was manifested.

On Saturday evening, addresses were made by Asst. State Secretary Puehler, and Secretary Miller of the Fond du Lac Railway Men’s Association, the hall being well filled.  Mr. Puehler briefly sketched the growth of the work since its inception in England sixty years ago, and Mr. Miller told of the work among the railway men.

Sunday afternoon, the meeting for men was attended by nearly two hundred.  State Secretary F.E. Anderson made the principal address, a stirring appeal for the young men of the state, and music was furnished by a male quartet, composed of Rolla Showalter, Albert Larson, J.T. Bristow and L.F. Shoemaker.  A collection was taken for the state work, about $20 being raised.

The great meeting was held on Sunday evening, every seat in the hall being occupied, and there being more than 500 people present.

The Y.M.C.A. Choral Union and members of the various church choirs occupied seats upon the platform, and led in the singing, and the quartet also sang.  Mr. Puehler opened the meeting with a short but interesting address jupon the work in Wisconsin, and Mr. Anderson followed with an appeal for financial aid for the local association.  Subscription cards were passed among the audience, and with the cash offering taken up at the same time, over $200 were raised for the work in Waupaca.

This money, with what has been raised by personal work of the board of directors, will be used to pay rent, fix up the gymnasium with  more apparatus, and equip the reading room and library.  It is estimated that the expenses will be about $500 for the year.

The board of directors requests that those who kindly pledged subscriptions at the Sunday night meeting, pay the amount to Roy Holly, secretary, as soon as convenient.
