The Saviors Lutheran church received Thursday their new 1900 pound bell from St. Louis.  It is a beauty and is donated by the Ladies’ and Young People’s’ Societies of the church, as an Easter present.  The cost of the bell is $350.00, about one-half of the price charged a year ago.  It is constructed of copper and tin and is one of the best bells sold.  The tone is clear and penetrating.  The bell is on exhibit at A.M. Hanson’s machine shop and will be placed in the belfry of the church before Easter and will be dedicated on Easter Sunday.

NEW CHURCH BELL ARRIVED LAST WEEK

Largest in the City – Dedication to Take Place Easter Morning

The bell for Our Savior’s Church arrived from the foundry at St. Louis last week and is at present at A.M. Hansen’s machine shop, as the belfry of the church will first be made ready to install the bell in a week’s time.  The bell is a very, large one – the largest in the city – and weighs with the frame 1900 pounds.  It has a sweet and mellow sound.  It is a gift from the Ladies’ and Young People’s Societies.  The dedication will take place on Easter Day at the morning service.  The bell has the following passage from Scripture cast into it:  “Incline your ear, and come unto me; hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you.”

NEW BELL DEDICATED

The dedication of the new bell for Our Savior’s church took place on Sunday last, as announced, in the presence of a congregation that filled the spacious church to over-flowing, extra seats having to be provided.

Rev. Andreasen made a short address on the sacred use of bells and the message they were to convey to us, at the close of which he dedicated the bell for sacred use.  A children’s choir rendered and anthem “The Church Bells”, and then the bell pealed forth invitation “Come! Come!” and the morning Easter service began.

To the Ladies and Young People’s Societies and several outside donors the congregation express its appreciation for the gift.
