DELEGATES ENTERTAINED
A Trolley Ride and Trip Around the Lakes
On Monday at 2 p.m., the delegates attending the Lutheran Convention were taken in charge by the Business Men’s Advancement Association and given a trolley ride to the Veterans Home. Upon arriving there they were conducted [to] the Home dock where the Power Boat club boats were in readiness to take the delegates and visitors around the lakes. Tickets were issued for 150 delegates, which were accepted for passage by the captains of the boats. There were 500 people that boarded the steam launches and motor boats. They were all greatly delighted with the courteous treatment received at the hands of the Power Boat Club members and others owning boats and highly pleased with our beautiful lakes and skillful manner in which the captains handled their crafts and the large crowds, without the slightest inconvenience.
The following boats were in service:
“Rob-Roy”, Capt., Roy Holly
“Lady of the Lakes”, Capt., Mrs. Merriam
“Glide”, Capt., J.R. Edmunds
“Mabel”, Capt., Ben Edmunds
“Alice R”, Capt., Merriam
“Marbel”, Capt., Dave Holmes
“Lotus”, Capt., J.E. Cristy
“Ramona”, Capt., Ward Olfson
“Lake Breeze”, Capt. John Coleman.
“Idle Hour”, Capt., J.S. Wood
“U Guess”, Capt. A.M. Hansen
After returning from the trip around the lakes the passengers were landed at the Home docks and conducted over the grounds and through the buildings. The officers of the Home ahd decorated the grounds and buildings extensively with flags of all sizes, and again, as is their custom on all occasions when visitors or individuals call on them, they were shown every courtesy and consideration.
Beautiful Waupaca, with its hospital citizens attract the most exacting. The Veterans Home with its genial officers, and the Chain o’ Lakes with their skilled and courteous Power Boat Club members and graceful crafts, make the strangers within our gates sing with joy at our beautiful city and surroundings. The delegates and visitors were returned to the city about 5 p.m. on the electric railway after having a most delightful outing.
