INDIAN CASE

Boss Thunder, a Winnebago Indian camping at Brainard’s bridge, swore out a complaint Saturday against Sam Wallace, his son-in-law, for mistreating Mary George, Boss Thunder’s daughter.  The charge was for assault and battery and a warrant issued for Wallace’s arrest.  He was traced to Weyauwega where he was arrested by Sheriff Flanagan and brought back to Waupaca Saturday afternoon, and placed in jail.  On Monday he was arraigned before Judge Heaney and the charge read to him, to which he pleaded guilty and was fined $50.00 and costs of action or to be confined in jail for a period of four months.  He claimed he had no money and was accordingly placed in jail where he will serve out his sentence.

Boss thunder is camping at Brainard’s bridge for the winter, where he is tanning deer hides and trapping.  The squaw, Mary George, was considerably bruised, her clothes badly torn, showing evidences of being harshly treated by her husband, Sam Wallace.  There was much excitement during the trial at Judge Heaney’s court, Monday.
