RECIEVES FINE FOR CRUELTY TO ANIMALS

Fine of $5.00 and Costs; Amounting in All to $45.00

 

            The case of L.H. Brainerd,, charged with cruelty to animals, was heard before Justice Heaney at his office on Tuesday afternoon before a jury composed of Chas. Larson, Chas. Yorkson, Chas. Chesley and Jones.

            A fine of $5.00 and costs, amounting to about $45.00 was imposed.  It is rumored that other arrests on the same charge will follow.

IN JUSTICE COURT

Convicted On a Charge of Cruelty to Animals

 

            On Tuesday, L.H. Brainerd, mail carrier on route No. 1, was tried before a jury in Justice Heaney’s court and convicted on a charge of mistreating his team, used on the mail route.  A complaint was filed some days ago charging cruelty and the case attracted a large crowd, which consumed nearly the entire day Tuesday.

            The amount assessed Mr. Brainard was $31.79 for fine and costs, or a sixty days jail sentence from which he took an appeal and filed bond accordingly which was approved.
