ATTEMPT MADE TO ENTER LEA’S STORE

Try to Effect Entrance Thru Rear Window – Other Robberies

On Sunday night an attempt was made to gain an entrance thru a rear window of the clothing store of A.R. Lea but the vandals were probably frightened away before they had completed their purpose.  They tried to remove a large pane of glass by scraping the putty away and thus make a noiseless entrance into the building.

The same night a ham was stolen from the restaurant of Chas. Chesley and several sacks of flour from the Fisher & Fallgatter Mill.

The Pabst Brewing company’s store house was also broken into and 13 quart bottles of beer taken.

The work is not that of hoodlums but it is supposed to be done by some one living here and who is familiar with the city.  The authorities are following a clue and think they will and the guilty parties.

BURGLARS IN TOWN

Several places were visited by burglars Sunday night with no great loss as far as is known.  The Pabst warehouse near the depot was broken into and a considerable amount of beer drank and taken.  The ice chest of the Blue Front restaurant was visited and a ham and some eatables appropriated.  A pane of glass in one of the windows in the rear of Fred Lea’s clothing store was cracked and nearly all the putty dug off the sash by the buglars who were evidently frightened away or to drunk to complete the job.  They left, however, before the job was finished which was very crude work, having attempted to take out the window with a railroad spike.
