Clintonville Man is Fine At
Hurley; Beer Is Dumped
Running
a load of beer into Hurley cost Max Block of Clintonville $500 and costs in
county court at Hurley late Friday afternoon when he was arraigned before Judge
James E. Flandrena.
And
Max lost 22 barrels of good beer – he said it was exceptionally good – which
Judge Flandrena ordered the sheriff to pour into the sewer so there would be no
argument over it.
The
arrest was made by Sheriff Robert Erepamer who, on receipt of a mysterious
telephone message went out and found Block with the load of beer already in
Hurley. Block was promptly arraigned
under the city ordinance with the result that the $500 fine was paid into the
coffers of the city instead of the state.
After the arrest of Block and the confiscation of the beer, nobody in Hurley seemed to know to whom the beer was destined, but there was more than one saloonkeeper who seemed about ready to wear crape. – Ironwood Globe.
