Seflute Aug01

Waupaca Republican

Aug. Seflute of this city, who was arrested on charge of alleged horse stealing near Wausau, a few weeks ago had his trial in the Circuit Court there this week.  He was acquitted of the charge, it being proven that the arrest was caused from a misunderstanding in a horse trade, the old fellow claiming that Seflute took the horse to try, and left town and sold the animal without authority.  James Anderson of this city, was present when Seflute was changing horses and heard the plaintiff say he had traded horses with Seflute.  E.H. Palmer, Frank Stout, James Anderson, L.S. Larson and Emmett Moore were witnesses from Waupaca. Mr. Seflute has borne a good character here, and his friends are glad to know the trial brought out the facts which absolved him from any crime in the matter.

LATER – The report that Seflute was acquitted seems to have been wrong.  As the dispatches yesterday morning state that he was convicted.  Irving Lord the attorney for Seflute was seen this morning and he stated that the verdict was a surprise to everybody and he should move for a new trial, which he had no doubt would be granted.
