Costly Postal Cards:  Martin Wallace of this city has found out that while a postal card costs only a cent apiece, when writing is placed thereon tending to ridicule a man or hurt his credit it is costly business.  Messrs. Gallagher & Co., machinery dealers in this city received a letter in which was enclosed a postal card, from the Milwaukee Harvester Company which they had received, on which were a few scurrilous words written by “A Friend”.  Those words were to the effect that Gallagher & Co.’s credit was not good etc.  Post office Inspector Pulcifer was sent for, to take the matter in hand as it is a punishable and finable offense for a person to write anything on a postal tending to slander or hurt a person’s credit.  Mr. Pulcifer compared the handwriting with Mr. Wallace’s and was convinced Wallace wrote the postals.

The following from the Oshkosh Times Tuesday explains further in regard to it.

Martin Wallace, of Waupaca appeared before United States District Attorney Elihu Coleman at eh government building yesterday.  He was arrested by Post office Inspector D.H. Pulcifer on the charge of sending threatening and abusive postal cards through the mail.  He was bound over to the United States court $500 bail in default of which he was taken to the Milwaukee county jail to await his trial.  (article incomplete).
