THE NEW OPERA HOUSE
Plans for the new Edifice Have Been Received
The plans for the new opera house, which the Danes Home Society is contemplating building, were received by Alfred Johnson from W. Walters, the Oshkosh architect, last week, and have been looked over with a great deal of interest by a great many people during the week.
They call for a building 55 by 90, to be erected north of the present building of the society, adjoining it, running east and west, the front elevation to be on Main Street. The main entrance will be the present main entrance of the old building, access to the opera house being through a doorway in the vestibule. The opera house will have a seating capacity of 625, 250 in the parquet or main floor, and the balance in the balcony, which has four rows of seats, and in the gallery, which has five. There will also be four boxes, two on each side of the proscenium arch. All the floors will be inclined.
The stage will be 53 by 32, with the proscenium arch 28 by 20 feet in size. The dressing rooms will be underneath the stage. The height of the theatre proper will be 30 feet, and there will be a foyer 15 feet deep in the front of the house.
In addition to the main entrance there will be four exits from the first floor, one in the rear, from the stage, two on the north side and one on the east. There will also be a separate exit from the balcony. The exits on the north side will be on a level with the ground.
The building is to be of brick veneer, with metal roof, and it is expected to cost, without furnishings, about $6,000. Contractors have been asked to make bids for erecting the edifice.
Opera chairs will be used throughout the building, and all seats will be upon a semi-circle, giving to each spectator a good view of the stage.
The land upon which the building will be erected is now owned by Albert Breit and J.P. Anderson, and is 66 by 128 feet in dimension.
It is believed that the new building will meet the demands of Waupaca as an amusement hall for a great many years to come.
