Catherine
Cornela Huntner Beach died at the residence of her
son-in-law, Mr. Irving P. Lord, in this city at three
o’clock Saturday afternoon, Sept.
5, 1908, after an illness of about eight weeks.
Catherine
Cornelia Huntner was born April 25th,
1830 at Schwersheim, Bavaria,
Germany. She came to America
five years later, living in New York City
with her parents until 1847, when and where she was married to Marcus D.
Beach. Soon after their marriage they
moved to Covington, Ky.,
and later to Muscatine, Ia.,
and still later to Tipton, Ia, where they lived many
years. Mr. Beach died in October,
1892. Nine daughters and two sons were
born. Those now living being Mrs. Emma Goodrich
of Twin Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Lillian G. Wallace, DeWitt, Iowa; Mrs. Josephine
Gable, Hartington, Neb.; Mrs. Nellie Simmons, Clarion, Iowa; Mrs. Minnie
Collins, Covina, Cal.; Mr. Harry F. Beach, Joliet, Ill.; and Mrs. Grace B. Lord
of this city. During the past fourteen
years Mrs. Beach has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Lord, in this
city. She was always interested in doing
good to others, in acts of charity and church
work. She was a consistent member of St.
Mark’s Episcopal church and St. Mark’s Guild, and the
Woman’s Auxiliary. Kind and unassuming,
but always earnest for the right, she made and kept many friends in this city
who sincerely mourn her death.
Funeral
services were conducted by Rev. F.G. Deis at St. Mark’s church Sunday afternoon
and beautiful flowers from friends bore tribute to their affection for Mrs.
Beach.
The
body was taken from Waupaca to DeWitt, Iowa,
by Mr. and Mrs. Irving P. Lord and Mrs. Gable, where it was buried beside that
of her husband in Elmwood cemetery.
Mrs.
Beach was one of those women who make the world better by having her in it and
no greater tribute could be paid her than by saying that she was one of God’s
most lovely women and a perfect mother. May her’s be perfect rest.
