Claus Christenson died at his home near Ogdensburg June 29th, 1908, at the age of eighty-four years, two months and five days.

He was born in Skea on the isle of Zealand in Denmark April 24th, 1824.  He early embraced the teachings of the Baptist church of which he remained a faithful consecrated member thru life.

He came to this country in 1853 and the following year married Mary A. Sorenson of Racine, at which place he lived until 1856.  Since that time he has been a resident of the town of St. Lawrence in Waupaca county.

During the reign of Frederick VII he served two and one half years in the war between Denmark and Germany.  He also served in the war of the Rebellion from the time of his enlistment in Sept. 1864, to the close being a member of the 44th Reg., Co. B., Wis. Infantry.

The funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon, Rev. N.T. Clark of Neenah, a friend of the deceased, officiating.  A large number of friends were present.  The pall bearers were Mr. Hessey of Manawa, Ole Larson and Deacon Head of Waupaca, and Messrs. Ratcliffe, Doughty and Ballard of Ogdensburg.  He was laid to rest in the Ogdensburg cemetery.

He leaves to mourn his loss his widow, two sons, E.N. of Ogdensburg and S.T. of Thorp, four daughters, Mrs. C.D. Peterson of Waupaca and Mary, Kate and Ella of Ogdensburg, and ten grandchildren.

His wife and six children, with one daughter-in-law were at his bedside in the last when he peacefully “entered in thru the gates into the City”.

He was well known and will be missed by a wide circle of friends, who loved him for his humble Christian life.  In the sadness of parting from a kind loving husband and father, there is the consolation that, “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in thru the gates into the City”.

“And God  shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be  no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.”

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me; write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them"
