The city of Waupaca is now equipped to fight fire the best it ever has been.  On Monday afternoon of This week there arrived in Waupaca from Minneapolis the new Universal fire truck which was ordered a few weeks ago from the W.S. Nott company of that city.

The new truck is low hung and of an easy riding type, with a seventy horse power, six cylinder, heavy duty engine.  The truck is painted red with the word “Waupaca” in gold on each side of the engine hood.

The pump is of ripple compression with a minimum capacity of 500 gallons of water a minute.  In addition to the necessary hose, the truck is equipped with two ladders, axes, picks, and a chemical pressure tank and hose.

On Wednesday a representative of the state fire department from Madison was in the city to inspect the new truck.  In the morning it was put through a three hour water pumping test, and in the afternoon given various other tests.  The state man reported to the city that all were met very successfully.

The contract of the city of Waupaca with the W.S. Nott company says that the company shall send the truck to Waupaca, and that if it passes all tests of the state fire department it shall be purchased by the city for the stipulated price of $5000.00 drawn in favor of the Nott company.

Chief Lewis and his fire fighters are proud of their new baby, and anxious to see how it wil work on the job.  At the present time the truck is in the Lewis garage, but later on will be quartered in the fire station at the city hall.
