Change in Hotel Florence
It was stated in the REPUBLICAN last week as the forms went to press that Andrew Meiklejohn of New London had bought the Hotel Florence property of Geo. W. Ghoca. By this deal “The Gordinier” will soon close as a hotel, as a deal has been consummated whereas Chas. S. Gordinier, who has so acceptably managed “The Gordinier” hotel which he purchased of C.S. DeVoin several years ago, will assume on Saturday the management of Hotel Florence with the name changed probably to “The Gordinier-Florence”. It is not definitely decided what he will do with “The Gordinier” hotel. But in all probability he will rent it as a flat or put some one in to run it as a private boarding hosue, using the surplus rooms for overflow during time of court, convention times, etc. At any rate Mr. Gordinier is going to run the “Ghoca House”, and from his experience and popularity as a hotel manager we predict for the “Gordinier-Florence” grand success.
Mr. Ghoca received about $16,000 for the property and Messrs. Whipple & Felker has since bought the property where the barn is situated for about $6,000, which firm will conduct a livery and run the buss line same as before.
Mr. Gordinier says his cousin, Mr. Meiklejohn, has a number of improvements in contemplation, which will have attention during the spring or summer, but no material changes will be made until after the March term of the circuit court is over.
