Couple Celebrate 59th Wedding Anniversary

 

            On January 7th, 1867, at Pine River, occurred the marriage of Nelson Brigham and Emma Stratton, the ceremony being performed by Timothy Graves, a justice of the peace.

            Mr. Brigham is now 84 years old ad Mrs. Brigham is 80, and on last Friday the aged couple celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary, the event taking place at the R.H. Brown cottage.  Those in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. R.N. Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pinkerton.  Mrs. Pinkerton is a sister of Mrs. Brigham.

            Following their marriage in 1867, the couple resided at Eaton’s Corners for two years, then at Saxeville for two years, then on the George Newsome farm in Dayton for one year, and then at Grand Meadow, Minn., for seven years.  In 1881 Mr. and Mrs. Brigham came back to Wisconsin and settled on the Brigham homestead.  In 1912 they sold the old farm to John Jensen and moved to Waupaca, where they now reside in the summers, spending the winters at the Veterans Home.  Mr. Brigham having served with the 30th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War.

            The many friends of the aged couple hope that they will enjoy many more years of happy married life.
