THE A.G. NELSON
LUMBER COMPANY IMPROVING PLANT
One
of the most substantial and enterprising firms in this city is the A.G. Nelson
Lumber Co. The business was started in a
small way by A.G. Nelson and has developed into one of the most prosperous in
this part of the state. While the name
would suggest lumber alone, that is a mistake for while they are large dealers
in that line it is but one of the many branches of their business. Since Mr. A.G. Nelson has been on the State
Board of Control the duties have largely fallen on Mr. E.W. Nelson, who has
taken charge of the business and handled it so very successfully that he
commands the admiration of his competitors as well as the public. It has been known for some time that they
contemplated adding more lines and enlarging their plant. They considered buying the building owned by
the Chandler estate and rebuilding
the whole block, but not being able to complete these plans they bought the Olfson
property for barn purposes and will build coal shoots and warehouses in the
rear of their plant. They will build
along the north side of the house track a coal shoot over 100 feet long for
hard coal alone. They will also build a
large storage house on the north spur track, away from the other buildings, for
soft coal. One of the buildings has been
moved to a spot near the river bank and will be enlarged for a warehouse for
feed stuffs. Messrs. Nelson will carry
coal, lime, cement, brick and all materials of a like nature. With this new undertaking the A.G. Nelson
Lumber company will be enabled to handle everything in
the house building line besides the flour and feed business. They expect to handle the fuel supplies on
the largest scale ever attempted in this city and already have their coal
purchased for the coming winter – enough, so that at no time will there be a
scarcity.
