The Woolen Mill
In a search for items of interest to the readers of the POST the writer happened into the Woolen Mills. Mr. Evans, the proprietor, courteously showed him through the mill and gave him such information as he desired.
The capacity of the mill is about 200 yards a day, and it uses about 40,000 pounds of wool per annum, - mostly the product of this and other near localities.
Fifteen hands are employed in the mill the year round and its output is fully twice as great as it was a few years ago. The greater part of the sales of the mill are naturally in the country to the north of us, though not all of its product goes there. Flannels of all grades, cassimers and other cloths are made in many pleasing patterns; some patterns are made that have been in good demand for twenty years.
Only a part of the water power that is available at the dam is used and the proprietor is beginning to think seriously of enlarging the mill. No difficulty is experienced in selling all the cloth made and there is little doubt than an increased production would find equally ready sales.
