The Town of Dayton has within its borders some very fine farms. Clark Holman Esq., whose farm lies two miles south of this village is a model farmer, and his farm is inferior to none in Waupaca County. It is a treat to view his broad and extensive fields of wheat and corn and beautiful meadows upon which graze the finest cows and stock in this part of the State. Mr. H. takes pride in his stock, and in his fields and lets no department of his large farm suffer for lack of attention. He is consequently making money.
Wm. Barlow’s farm is located ¾ of a mile south-east of here. This farm consists of about 300 acres, nearly all in a good state of cultivation. Mr. Barlow’s buildings are very fine.
The farm of Robt. McCrossen, on Waupaca Road, contains 300 acres, every foot of which is good land. Mr. Mc. Raises a great amount of produce every year, and annually turns off scores of fat cattle and hogs.
Geo. Pitcher’s farm is located one mile north-east of this place. This farm is particularly adapted to dairying. It is said that George is getting rich. The product of his dairy commanding 3 and 4 cents more per pound than market prices. We could go on and particularize a score of farms located within a radii of three miles of this place, that are big paying investments, the owners of which are making money every year. As an evidence of the prosperity of farmers in this county, we will state upon reliable authority, that more fencing and clearing up and plowing of new land is being done this season than for any season since the county has been inhabited. As much of this pays tribute to Waupaca it should be a matter of importance to her business-men.
