Dam Out01
Waupaca Paper
Unmarked date
(possibly 1870’s)
Great
excitement was manifest in this city Tuesday morning, about nine o’clock by the announcement that the electric light
dam had gone out. A hurried run to the
dam revealed the fact that the increase head of water flowing through the sluce
way had burst off the bulk head of the wheel (pit) and snapped some of the
timbers like pipe stems. Also the walls
were being washed out fro under the building containing the driving wheels and
dynamos. It looked serious for a time or
until the gates were raised and the water drawn off the pond. A post was finally placed under the corner of
the building where the wall was washed out.
The Association will repair the breaks and bolt it solid now, at the
same time they can readily see how several dollars worth of iron used at the
right time, might have saved a hundred dollars now, and thousands of dollars
work of property had a close call. It
does seem as though dam business had to be learned by experience.
