Eagle Convention 01

WAUPACA GETS
CONVENTION
R.F. Mathews and
Chas. Bowers Secure the Eagles for This City in 1909
At the
Eagles’ Convention in Superior last
week R.F. Matthews and Chas. Bowers were present and represented this
city. They report a fine time and a very
large gathering with everything going off very orderly and the unfavorable
comment the Eagles’ convention received at Oshkosh
a year ago was more than offset by the gentlemanly manner in which this body of
men conducted themselves in Superior. Mr. Matthews states he never saw so large a
body of men together where they tried so hard to make a good impression as on
this occasion.
There
will be about 80 delegates that will meet in Waupaca next June and it is
expected that the one big day will be attended by at least 3000 or 4000 people
who will arrive in the morning and return in the evening. There were a number of cities after the 1909
convention in this city.
The
Superior people entertained the convention by a trip
around the harbor over aerial bridge at Duluth
and the many attractions and industries of the two cities were shown the
visitors. In the evening they were
entertained at a banquet, speeches, music, etc.
