THE FISH HATCHERY AT WILD ROSE

Best Natural Location in the United States

Work is being pushed on the new trout hatchery which is being built at Wild Rose.  Senator E.E. Browne of this city was with the commission when they inspected this site and they agreed that it was the best natural location in the United States for a fish hatchery.  It is situated one mile from the city, simplifying the transportation requirements, on a clear stream fed by springs.  A half mile of Pine River will be used for ponds.  Several small streams or brooks flow into the river at this point making the conditions ideal.

Three dams have already been built and the streams and ponds will be entirely free from all refuse or sediment, the water being clear and cold, the natural conditions for breeding these trout.

Wisconsin is doing a great work in keeping the streams of the state stocked with fish.  All the commissioners, however, feel that in the Wild Rose hatchery we have an ideal spot and all the natural requirements for a perfect hatchery for raising trout.

The present appropriation has been found inadequate for the completion of the plans and the hatchery can not be finished until a larger appropriation has been made.
