THE LOG CABIN LATCH STRING SHOULD HANG DOWN ON THE OUTSIDE
The executive committee of The Little Red Schoolhouse Pioneer Association desire to make the coming annual festival of such Association equal to any of the past festivals in social warmth and interest. The ranks of the pioneer trail makers are rapidly lessening and it will soon fall to their children and grandchildren to keep fresh the memories of the struggles and victories of pioneer days in the “Indian Land” county. The local pioneers can lend a helping hand in making the coming festival one of heart to heart touch, by sending an invitation to some pioneer friend or relative residing out of the county and the state. Assure them that the Cabin Latch String still hangs out awaiting the old neighborly pull, and that the warm-hearted welcome of old will greet them as the cabin door swings open. Urge them to come and renew pioneer ties of neighborliness. Perhaps some of them have long been contemplating a visit to the old home county and a warm invitation may be the deciding item with them. If a homecoming is not possible, write them to wind a bit of pioneer “yarn” from the reel of memory and send it on to be woven into the program of the festival. Pioneer days were rich with incidents of adventure and snapshots of humor and the festival program should be spiced with such most liberally. It is to be a day of hand grips, memory pictures and the old hearty good will on every hand. It will live over the Huskin’ Bee, the Barn Raisin’, the Loggin’ Bee, the Spellin’ School, aye, even the pioneer time town and school meetin’s. No red tape, no class distinction, no dress parade but one of the jolly good round-ups of early days and doings.
The festival will be held during the month of August, and the date fixed sufficiently early to get invitations out, far and wide. Write the absent ones now. Get them interested and a bit later on you can send them full particulars in print. A good old time festival, friends – aye, let’s have it and live the next year in rich memories of its heart to heart rejoicing. Get busy and keep busy for the good time coming.
