ONCE UPON A TIME

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

May 9, 1901 – Two engineers from Berlin are in the city today, consulting with the water works committee of the city council as to he proper thing to do to better the city’s water supply.  The proposition to get water from Mirror Lake was considered and thought not feasible.  The general opinion is that the best thing to do was to follow out the plan suggested by W.P. Goodhue last year. It is to blast out two reservoirs at the head of Main Street, next to the river, one of them to be a filter and the other to be a storage reservoir, from which water would be pumped to the pressure reservoir on Mount Tom.
