Charles Speaks

Waupaca Republican

December 9, 1881

That overgrown bed blanket of an alleged newspaper, the Waupaca Post, is dividing the small amount of its space not already occupied by patent medicine advertisements, between bragging about its big (?) circulation and trying to abuse The Republican, which by the way is a lively and well filled, well edited local paper.  The Post predicts the winding up of the Republican within a year.  If the people of that section are alive to their own interests, they will take the paper which gives them the most news and the least brag.  It does well enough for a paper to blow its own horn occasionally, but a continual toot, the year round is disgusting. – Berlin Evening Journal.

The above is a fair sample of the opinion of many papers in this part of the State, but we predict a change now in the management of The Post.  Mr. Ogden is a fair and honorable gentleman, and as he has taken active control of a half interest in that paper, it will assume an entirely different tone.

John Ogden has again gone into the printing business in this city, having purchased the interest of Mr. Stetson in the Waupaca Post.  John is an old newspaper man and we welcome him back to the ranks of active editorial duty.
