Republican Newspaper Growth
Waupaca Post
EVIDENCE OF GROWTH
On January 1, when the Republican was just entering upon its fifty-fifth year we purchased the plant of W.H. Holmes.
A small amount of new equipment was added and a steady increase in circulation has marked the first half year of our effort. An encumbrance had stood against the property for some time which was discharged on July 23 last by our check for $695.50 in favor of E.E. Browne of this city, so the plant is no longer encumbered.
After the same assessor had for several years assessed the property of the city a notice was served on the 3rd inst., upon the publishers of the three papers in the city and as a result the Board of Review visited the three print shops of the city enmasse and after investigation and deliberation changes in the assessed valuation of the several plants were changed as follows: The valuation of the plant is 6 per cent higher this year than one year ago; a second is increased 25 per cent, in its assessed valuation over a year ago; the Waupaca Republican is distinguished by receiving recognition by the Board of Reviews to the extent of an increase in assessed valuation in 1908 over that of 1907 of 114 2-7, or considerable more than double. As the valuation of a print shop is based not alone on type, paper cutters and presses, but on circulation and good will of its constituency, we call attention to these facts to bear out our claim that the Republican is rapidly increasing in value as a family newspaper and advertising medium.
