Allington Hanry01

Waupaca Post

April 25, 1907

Henry E. Allington was born in Bradford County, Pa., Oct. 28, 1827 and died in Dayton, Waupaca County, Wis., April 20, 1907.

He was married in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York, on January 1, 1852, to Catharine Cordelia Russell.  In the year 1855 they came west to what was then nearly the western boundary of civilization, and known as the Indian land of Wisconsin. Here they secured land and settled where he has since resided, being nearly fifty-two years.

On January 24, 1892,  his wife, Catharine Cordelia, died.  On June 9, 1899, he was married to Mary Jane Stark, who died Jan. 30, 1904.

Mr. Allington was a man respected by all who knew him and was consulted by a great many of his friends and neighbors for advice and assistance, which was never refused if it was within his power to grant it. The confidence placed in him by his fellow townsmen was shown by the number of years they kept him in town office, which was nearly twenty years, during which time he filled the office of supervisor, town clerk and chairman.  He always tried to discharge his duty as such in the best way possible, according to his own judgment and the judgment of his fellow officers, as it was his principle to act in conjunction with all interested with him.  Although he was a very unassuming man, it is evident that the world is better for his having lived in it, and the influence left by him will lasting the years to come.  The sickness that caused his death has been of a year or more duration, and was a general breaking down, caused by old age. The funeral was held from the Methodist church in Parfreyville with interment in the Parfreyville cemetery.

Those present at the funeral were:  Mr. and Mrs. Horace Allington, of Stratford; Frank H. Allington, of Kelso, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Blackburn of Bruce.
