DEATH OF FORMER WAUPACA WOMAN

The death of Mrs. Frances F. Bergendahl, formerly Frances Arnold, of this city, occurred Friday, April 18, at Ellendale, N. Dak., in her sixty-third year.  Deceased was a sister of Albert Arnold and had many relatives in this city.  Coming to Waupaca with her parents at the age of three years; she began teaching at the age of fourteen and later entering the law office of her uncle, E.L. Perry of New London.  She was admitted to the practice of law in 1881, after working to secure the passage of a bill to permit women to practice in Wisconsin, later being admitted to the bar of North Dakota; hers was certainly an unusual career.  She was united in marriage to H.M. Bergendahl and after the death of three children and her husband, she conducted a large store in Ellendale for several years besides managing other lines of businesses.
