DEATH OF FORMER
WAUPACA WOMAN
The death
of Mrs. Frances F. Bergendahl, formerly Frances Arnold, of this city, occurred
Friday, April 18, at Ellendale, N. Dak., in her
sixty-third year. Deceased was a sister
of Albert Arnold and had many relatives in this city. Coming to Waupaca with her parents at the age
of three years; she began teaching at the age of fourteen and later entering
the law office of her uncle, E.L. Perry of New London. She was admitted to the practice of law in
1881, after working to secure the passage of a bill to permit women to practice
in Wisconsin, later being
admitted to the bar of North Dakota; hers was certainly an unusual career. She was united in marriage to H.M. Bergendahl
and after the death of three children and her husband,
she conducted a large store in Ellendale for several years besides managing
other lines of businesses.
