Waupaca County Post

March 24, 1910

Dr. Dagmar Marie Brown passed quietly away at her home on Union Street on Palm Sunday, March 20, 1910, at the age of seventy-seven years.  Her death was the result of heart trouble.  She was born in Finland, Dec. 24, 1833, and came to this country about forty years ago.  After a residence in New York, Mexico, Fond du Lac and other places she came to Waupaca, thirty years ago and has resided here continuously since.  During all these years she has been the only homeopathic physician in the city and enjoyed a liberal patronage.  She was possessed of good business ability and had accumulated quite a bit of property.

Dr. Brown was twice married, her second husband died in Fond du Lac about thirty-five years ago and was buried in Rochester, N.Y.  She is survived by two daughters who reside in Sweden, a grandson, Einer Torsell, who has made his home with the deceased for the past six months and a nephew, Dr. Henry Holm of Waukeegan, Ill.

Rev. Millar of the M.E. Church will conduct the funeral services at the house this afternoon at two o’clock.  Interment will be made at Lakeside cemetery.

Note:  According to local lore Dagmar Brown was the first woman doctor in Waupaca, coming here around 1880.
