Cady Julius01

Waupaca Republican

May 17, 1907

On Sunday last at the home of his son “Stub” or E.O. Cady at Auburndale, there passed to  his final rest Julius Cady a well known eccentric but honest character in this county for nearly a half century, at the age of seventy-three years.

Deceased was born in St. Lawrence county, N.Y., in 1834.  In the early 50’s when a young man he came to Wisconsin and settled in what was the then village of Waupaca.  In 1855 he united in marriage with Dricilla Harris, and from that union three children are now living, E.O., and William Cady of Auburndale and Lucy, Mrs. Peter Brazil, near Big Falls in this county.

Deceased was a member of the First Wisconsin Cavalry in the war of the Rebellion from Nov. 1863, until the close of the war in 1865, and it is said by his comrade Richard Woolsey of Lind that “Jute” was a brave soldier.

He was contractor in his palmist days; building dams or any important work he could get hold of. Several years ago he went to Big Falls to live but his health failing him about a year and a half ago he entered the Wisconsin Veterans’ Home where he remained until two or three weeks ago, when his son from Auburndale came after his father, thinking perhaps a change might be beneficial as he had not appeared to gain much since having the diphtheria last winter.  The remains arrived Monday at 11:00 a.m. accompanied by his sons and were met at the depot by friends and relatives and taken to the Veterans’ Home cemetery where buried beside a brother Samuel Cady who died about a year ago at hat institution.  Rev. W.R. Brown gave a very impressive sermon at the grave over the departed comrade.  “Mustered Out”” “Let him rest in Peace.”
