Death of H.S. Dixon
At the time we went to press with our last paper, intelligence reached us that H.S. Dixon, of New London, was at the point of death with lung fever, with little hope of his recovery. Friday evening about 5 o’clock, he passed away, and his familiar face will no longer be seen. We clip the following form the Oshkosh Northwestern:
Hannibal S. Dixon was born in Orleans, Jefferson County, N.Y, July 1st, 1834. about 1855 started westward, coming to Wisconsin. He first settled in Milwaukee for a short time afterwards removed to Janesville, then Ripon and finally set his stakes permanently at New London where he has ever since resided and with the growth and progress of which place he has been thoroughly identified. He was a member of the Waupaca County board of supervisors for four years and president of the village for one year. He was elected to the lower house of the legislature in 1877 as a Republican, securing 1,294 votes against 942 for James Meiklejohn, the Democratic nominee. Since his residence at New London, Mr. Dixon has been engaged principally in the saw mill business and in the operation of a stave factory. He was also the snior member of the dry goods firm of Dixon & Wright. Formerly he was interested in the Wolf River line of boats, with Reuben Doud. He leaves a wife and four children, the eldest of which is 19 years. His sister, Mrs. H.D. Slout of this city, is now the only survivor of a large family of children. Mr. Dixon’s parents have resided with him for the past 15 years and are still living at the ripe old age of 75 years.
