FORMER MAYOR AND ESTEEMED CITIZEN PASSES AWAY AT ABBOTSFORD THIS WEEK
A telegram was received Tuesday announcing the death at Abbotsford, of Jason Gurley, who for many years was a prominent and esteemed resident of this city, leaving here about three years ago last fall, to make his home at Abbotsford.
The funeral will be held at Abbotsford Thursday at 10 a.m., and the remains will be brought here on the afternoon train, interment to be in Lakeside cemetery.
Mr. Gurley came here at an early date. He served in the Civil War and settled here on his discharge. He was for several years in charge of the Standard Oil interests, and was interested in civic and political affairs.
He was mayor from 1908-09 and was a member of the Common Council during four consecutive terms, being alderman from 1894-1901.
