C.E. Hackendall
Carl Edw. Hackendall one of the early Danish pioneers of this city died Friday at the home of his daughter in the 1st Ward, Mrs. N.C. Jensen, at the ripe old age of 83 years and sixteen days.
Mr. Hackendall was an old time printer and pressman in Denmark and a few years before coming to this country was shipping clerk for a wholesale tobacco house in Copenhagen. He emigrated to this country and settled in Waupaca in 1857. He had charge of the power press in the Post printing office for a number of years when the presses were turned by hand, and he sometimes turned the power press in the REPUBLICAN office. For many years he has kept busy by doing odd jobs sawing wood, etc., and has enjoyed fair health until the past two or three months when he took to his bed. His sands of life had run; he entered into eternal rest.
