Chris Hill, one of the original managers of the Grand View Hotel at the Chain o’ Lakes, died at Leon, Iowa, last week, after an illness of several months.  The remains were brought to Embarrass for burial, the funeral taking place on Thursday afternoon.

Chris Hall was one of the pioneer lumbermen and hotel men in the northern part of the state, living at various times at Embarrass, Markton, and Shawano.  He was born in New York state in 1836, and came west when a young man.  During the war of the rebellion, he was a member of Company B, 21st Infantry, and served with distinction until the close of the war.

During the five years he was connected with the Grand View hotel he made many warm friends in this city, who will be sorry to learn of his demise.  Bluff, big-hearted, and always jovial, Chris Hill was deservedly popular.
