INSTANTLY KILLED
A Shocking Accident Occurred in Belmont
Albert Johnson, son of Rasmus Johnson of Belmont, was instantly killed on Saturday morning last, about 9:30 o’clock, at his brother’s where he was working, cleaning up an ice house ready for winter work. He was shoveling sawdust underneath a scaffold, which was about a foot above him, throwing the sawdust upon the scaffold. The scaffold was not securely built, and the weight of the sawdust caused it to break and fall, a timber striking the unfortunate man, breaking his neck, death being instantaneous. His brother, J.H. Johnson, went to his aid immediately, but life was extinct by the time he was able to uncover the body.
Albert was born in Denmark Oct. 20, 1878, being 21 years, one month and six days old. He leaves behind him his father, mother, six sisters, and three brothers to mourn his loss. He was a very dutiful son and an affectionate brother, and had many friends in the community. He was a member of Blaine tent, Knights of the Maccabees, who had charge of the funeral.
The funeral was held on Monday afternoon, from the home of Rasmus Johnson and it was largely attended in spite of the stormy weather. Rev. Jersild of Waupaca officiated, and preached an excellent sermon, partly in Danish and partly in English. The pall bearers were selected from the members of the lodge, nearly all members and also the Lady Maccabees being present. The flowers were very numerous and beautiful. The remains were laid to rest in the Blaine cemetery.
